Elena is a PhD student in the Curriculum, Teaching and Learning department at OISE. She is a graduate of the Master of Teaching program at OISE and a certified general science, biology and chemistry teacher. Elena’s background is in science (veterinary, animal and food sciences, MSc, PhD) and she has over 15 years’ teaching experience at school and university level. During her career, she has also been employed as an editor of several industry journals. Currently, Elena is Editorial Assistant of the Master of Teaching Research Journal at OISE.
Her interests in science education include experiential learning and exploration of the use of a Learning Community approach in science classroom: how students improve their scientific literacy and develop their understanding of the Nature of Science, work with case studies and participate in scientific argumentation, and build their career identity.
